Avandia and Actos are thiazolidinediones. Women with PCOS are often treated
with thiazolidinediones to improve their insulin sensitivity, glucose
tolerance, hyperandrogenism and restore ovulation. Thiazolidediones have side
effects of weight gain, edema and anemia. New research suggests the reduction of
hemoglobin and hematocrit may be due to the drugs ability to lower
testosterone levels.
